All the treacherous driving and back-breaking shoveling
aside, the early snow certainly brought on the holiday feelings. To all our members—Warmest wishes for a
joyous holiday and a rewarding New Year!

Now You Can Visit us on the Web!
Thanks to the hard work of Steve Darnell, our web
site www.mbayestates.org is up and running! The home page features a photograph with a
panoramic view from the beach and a brief description of our neighborhood. This newsletter will be posted on the web
site, too. Moreover, you can read up on
the history of MBEA, including moving recollections of a long-time resident,
titled “Joe Wing Remembers.” The site
also provides links to many sites of interest such as the Town of North Hempstead,
Port Washington Schools, and News 12 Long Island. You can contact our Board President, Joe Sciacca, and web
master, Steve, via the site. Still
under development are features such as an event calendar, photos of our
activities and a classified ads section.
We welcome your ideas for the web site.

We would like to thank those who have sent in their
membership dues. Your membership
dollars are hard at work for you. (See
Page 2 for some of the activities during the year.) Do you know that, by way of owning your home in MBEA, you
automatically become a member? With
this membership comes many privileges and one obligation: the dues. Please send in yours if you have not already
done so. Any questions? Please call Dody Petruskie at
767-2299. Thank you!
The MBEA annual cocktail party was held this year on
August 9th at the Knickerbocker Yacht Club.
All who attended had a great time, chatting and drinking while admiring
the stunning view of Manhasset Bay.
There was even some dancing ! It
was nice to see neighbors who you don’t see quite as often as others. There were also some new members who came
and met people from the neighborhood.
Many thanks to Jim MaAleer for having made all the arrangements
to bring about this fabulous event.
Please look forward to next year’s announcements for the cocktail party
so that you could join us, again or for the first time, in the celebration of
friendship, neighborliness and summer fun!
Snapper Tournament
The Snapper Tournament was held at our Dock on August
16th. There were a great number of
children who competed in the Tournament as well as a couple of die-hard adults
who tried to muscle out the kids for a prize.
Initially, the fishing looked bleak until Alison Salstein started us off
with the first snapper. Alison was
quickly followed by her sister, Carolyn.
Joe Scialo, Jr. not only talked a good fishing game plan, but he also
was successful in catching a fish. Many
awards were given out, including fishing gear, tackle boxes, nets and other
items. We must thank Ron Salstein
who helped run the event (but who did not catch a fish himself) and John
Tsampas who was in charge of untangling lines and spools that became balls
of knots. Much appreciation to R&G
Bait Shop for having donated prizes as well as the bait. Great fun was had by all. There were some 30-35 children who had a
great day fishing, finishing off the day with pizza and drinks. Joe Bellon, his daughter, Maryanne, as well
as Maryanne’s children were determined and fished the entire day. Also receiving an award for determination
was Danielle Scialo who tried her best to break into the winning
categories. Louie Tsampas, with his
enthusiastic group of fishermen, scoured all locations around the beach for the
best fishing hole.

Remember August 23rd?
It was a gorgeous summer day!
There was a tremendous turnout for our end of the year beach party! Throughout the day, many came to enjoy not
only the barbeque but also the games and activities available for the
children. The cotton candy and popcorn
were a big hit! The potato sack races
were dominated by Ashley Scialo and Carolyn Salstein. Many , many thanks to Jim
McAleer for his tireless efforts in organizing the event; to Linda
Scialo for setting up the bouncing house, cotton candy and popcorn
machines; to Joe Scialo for handling the kyacking; to grill masters Ron
Salstein and Bob Madeira for the fabulous food; to Eileen Tyrrell
for having set the most amazing tables; and to Dody Petruskie for having
coordinated with everyone! We can’t
wait for the party next year!

As you read this Tidings, the swing set at the beach has
been installed. The majority of the
work on the parking lot at the beach has been completed. We decided to wait until the Spring to put
the stone on top to give the aggregate that was placed in the parking lot time
to settle. Adjustments to the grade
will also be made in the Spring and stones will be added. Substantial sums were saved on the project
by the good work of John Tsampas who supervised the grading of the
parking lot. Come Spring, we can also
implement some of the changes suggested by the landscape architect retained by
the Association, Rudi Harbauer. We have
received revised plans which are more in line with what we had requested. Mainly, we would like to increase the shade
and sitting areas while staying with the rustic feel of the beach. As set forth in our July issue of Tidings,
we hope that these improvements would provide a more conducive space for those
members who wish to have parties at the beach; while not impinging on those who
enjoy sunning by the water. We will
keep you informed of our progress.
We have commenced the proceeding with the Town of North
Hempstead for the improvements to the playground at the Merriman Park. Much groundwork has been laid by David
Spivak. We are currently waiting
for legal work with the town and hearings to be held before we can make the
necessary upgrades. We will bring to
your attention any new developments with the Town of North Hempstead. We will also advise you of any public
hearings.

On a separate matter, we have received numerous inquiries
regarding dogs in the park. Please note
that the park is owned by a separate park district and managed by the Town of
North Hempstead. The Town Code does not allow dogs in any town parks, except
for seeing-eye dogs. You can read a
detailed discussion on this subject in the Newsletter field on our web site.
The Tidings is YOUR newsletter. We
would love to hear from you! Any
